Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, formerly Baptist Medical Centre on Wednesday, 18th March, 2026 clocked 119 years of service and existence. A brief ceremony was held at the BUI Auditorium where Prof. A. O. Durodola took members of the hospital community on a nostalgic journey. He highlighting the contributions of Rev and Mrs. Jefferson Bowen, and others who had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Hospital from inception till present time.
The celebration featured memorable pictures showcasing historical sites, esteemed staff and impactful structures. A standout exhibit was the Iconic bell, last rung during the hospital centennial celebration.
The event celebration showcased BUTH’s rich history and legacy highlighting the contributions of former staff including those who have died but left behind impactful legacies.
It was also an avenue to recognize the dedication of long-serving staff, like Prof. A. D. OlaOlorun, Mr. B. Alfred, Mrs. R. Oladipupo, Mr. S. O. Ogunlowo and several others honoring their commitments to BUTH’s mission.
As BUTH celebrates 119 years of service, the event served as a poignant reminder of the hospital’s rich history from its humble beginning to its designation as a teaching hospital on 2nd December, 2009, BUTH has grown exponentially, earning a reputation for excellence in healthcare and education. The recognition of pioneering figures like Rev Jefferson, alongside the commemoration of few long serving staff underscored the institution’s enduring impact on the community.
The celebration did not only look back on past achievements but also looked forward to a brighter future for BUTH. As the hospital continues to evolve, the spirit of service, dedication, and excellence embodied by its past and present staff remains a guiding force, inspiring future generations to uphold the institution’s esteemed reputation.
The event which was an impact was attended by Prof. S. A. Adegoke, Chief Medical Director, Dr. Y. T. Olasinde, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Mr. S. O. Oladejo, Director of Administration, Dr. O. O. Oyewusi, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, the Chaplains, Heads of Departments, staff and students.
