The College of Nursing Sciences, Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, marked a significant milestone with a maiden matriculation ceremony on Friday, 25th April 2025. The event formally inducted students into the College of Nursing program, symbolizing their commitment to excellence in nursing education. The College of Nursing Sciences is dedicated to providing quality nursing education, fostering research, and producing competent professionals.
Mr. S. O. Ogunlowo, Ag. Provost, College of Nursing Sciences, highlighted the institution’s rich history, spanning over four decades, which thousands of nurses have been trained. The Provost buttressed on the quality of education of the College of Nursing Sciences even from the days of School of Nursing which has been known for discipline, excellence and holistic development of students. He emphasized the institution’s accredited programs, including National Diploma and Higher National Diploma, recognized nationally and internationally. He reminded students that nursing is not just a profession, but a calling – “to be a nurse is to be a light in the darkness.” This poignant message underscored the noble nature of Nursing as a ministry and not just a profession.
Prof. S. A. Adegoke, Chief Medical Director, BUTH and the Chairman, Management Committee, CONSO, thanked the past Chief Medical Directors, Dr. O. G. Olupona and Prof. A. D. Olaolorun for their pivotal roles in the transition of College of Nursing Sciences. He congratulated the matriculating students, urging them to seize opportunities, cultivate excellence, and strive for consistent success. He also advised them to work together to achieve greater heights. On behalf of the Hospital Management Committee, he welcomed them to the institution.
