
Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Ogbomoso joins the global community in the fight against malaria. Today, we commemorate World Malaria Day, a worldwide effort to raise awareness and accelerate progress in malaria control.
Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasite transmitted through infected mosquito bites. The symptoms include fever, chills and flu-like symptoms and if left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and death.
The steps to prevent malaria are:
- Clear drainage/stagnant water.
- Clearing of bush around the house.
- Planting of shrubs that repel mosquito e.g Lemon grass.
- Netting of windows/doors.
- Use of insecticide-treated bed net.
- Apply insect repellent e.g mosquito coils, Raids, creams e.t.c.
- Wear protective clothing.
- Report to the hospital when feeling sick.
- Prompt treatment of malaria.
BUTH is committed to providing quality healthcare services for malaria diagnosis, treatment, prevention, promoting community awareness, education on malaria prevention strategies, and supporting research and innovation to combat malaria.
